Lands Authority ‘creating obstacles’ in request for db beach concession documents, Momentum says

Monday, 5 January 2026, 13:07 Last update: about 7 months ago

The Lands Authority is "creating obstacles" to Momentum's request for publication of all documentation related to the beach concession granted to DB in St. George's Bay, the party said in a statement referencing the Land Authority's notification that it needs an extension to reply.

Momentum committee member Matthew Agius had filed a Freedom of Information (FOI) request with the Lands Authority seeking full disclosure of documents related to dB Group's application to take over a stretch of public rock coastline in St George's Bay, for the excavation of a swimming pool and the construction of a beach deck.

In a statement on Monday, Momentum said: "The Lands Authority excuses to delay are unacceptable since if things have been done according to law, all this documentation should be readily accessible. Secondly, the people deserve to know immediately since this request concerns the public foreshore, which is protected according to the public domain."

Attaching the correspondence received by the party, the Lands Authority informed it that it needs an extension to reply, saying that "the Public Authority needs to consult third parties before it can decide on your request, and more time is needed to obtain the necessary feedback."
