Marginal increase in unemployment rate in December – NSO

The unemployment rate for December 2025 stood at 3.2 per cent, an increase of 0.1 percentage point compared with the previous month and showed no change when compared with December 2024.

During December 2025, the number of unemployed persons stood at 11,063, an increase 3.8 per cent compared with the previous month, and an increase of 3.5 per cent when compared to December 2024. While the 25 to 74 age group was the major contributor to the overall level of unemployment, totalling 7,423 persons (67.1 per cent), the number of unemployed youths amounted to 3,640 (32.9 per cent).

In December 2025, the unemployment rate for males stood at 3.3 per cent, increasing by 0.2 percentage points compared with November 2025. Meanwhile, the unemployment rate for females stood at 3.0 per cent, showing no change from the preceding month.

The unemployment rate for persons aged 15 to 24 years (youth unemployment rate) increased by 0.4 percentage points when compared to November 2025, standing at 11.9 per cent. The rate for those aged between 25 and 74 years stood at 2.3 per cent, showing no change when compared to November 2025.
