The government has received around 800 submissions during its public consultation on the future of White Rocks, Fort Campbell and Manoel Island, Environment Minister Miriam Dalli has said.

Speaking on TVM, Dalli noted that the bulk of the feedback and public interest has focused on the White Rocks proposal.

She rejected claims that the government treats open spaces as an afterthought, despite several large greening projects promised ahead of the 2022 election still awaiting completion. Dalli argued that the current administration has invested more effort than any previous government in open spaces, pointing out that her ministry alone has delivered 68 projects to date.

According to the minister, the larger projects remain in the pipeline due to their scale and complexity. Addressing the White Rocks, Manoel Island and Fort Campbell initiatives, Dalli described them as a long-term legacy intended for future generations.

She added that if the three sites had been commercially developed, their combined value would have exceeded €1 billion, stressing that their eventual use is now being shaped through public input.

Separately, the Manoel Island: Post Għalina campaign has released a community-led vision for the island's future and is encouraging members of the public to submit it as part of the ongoing consultation process. The document, which can be downloaded from the campaign's website, is based on more than 200 hours of discussions held during a series of workshops involving over 70 participants, including Gżira residents, members of the public and subject experts.
