Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri told Parliament on Monday that since 2010, there have been 83 homicide cases in the Maltese islands - 18 of which are still unsolved.

Parliamentary data presented by Minister Camilleri shows that all 36 homicide cases that have occurred in the country since 2018 have been solved, meaning that all unresolved murders within this 15-year period stretch back to 2017 and prior.

Prior to 2017, 2011 is the only calendar year that has all homicide cases from that year marked as solved.

From unresolved cases, there is one pending case that dates back to 2010, three unresolved homicides from 2012, two from 2013, four from 2014, two such cases from 2015, another two from 2016, and four more unresolved homicide cases from 2017. In total, these add up to just over one fifth of all homicide cases since 2010.

2012 registered the most homicide cases witnessed in the Maltese islands for a single year, with 10 such cases - seven of which have been solved. Nine homicide cases occurred in 2017, five of which have been solved. 2022 recorded the third-most homicide cases for any calendar year since 2010, with eight, all of which have been solved.

The Minister for Home Affairs noted that this leaves 65 homicide cases whose status is solved.
