A new €400,000 programme providing free occupational health and safety training for small and medium-sized enterprises and self-employed workers has been launched as a Budget 2026 measure. The initiative will be implemented by the Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA) over 24 months.

Justice and Construction Reform Minister Jonathan Attard said the programme strengthens prevention efforts and complements enforcement by improving knowledge and compliance.

OHSA Chief Executive Josianne Cutajar said the training targets SMEs, which make up 99% of enterprises in Malta, as well as around 46,000 self-employed workers. Courses will cover sector-specific risks and can be followed through flexible schedules, including online learning.
