Speaker of the House of Representatives Anġlu Farrugia hosted a series of diplomatic meetings welcoming the newly accredited ambassadors of Laos, Indonesia, and Ecuador.

The engagement with Daovy Vongxay of Laos was particularly significant as it coincided with the 15th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations. During their discussion, both parties reflected on over a decade of cordial relations and explored new avenues for cooperation in trade, sustainable development, and education.

Speaker Farrugia expressed Malta's appreciation for Laos' support of Malta's increasing engagement with ASEAN and noted that the forthcoming Asia-Oceania Framework Policy would further solidify these inter-regional connections.

Speaker Farrugia also met with Junimart Girsang, the new Ambassador of Indonesia. This meeting reinforced the long-standing friendship between the two countries, with a specific focus on enhancing bilateral cooperation in sectors such as tourism, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. Given Indonesia's status as a key member of ASEAN, the Speaker underlined Malta's commitment to building closer relations with Southeast Asia. Both sides agreed that multilateralism and open dialogue remain essential tools for addressing shared global challenges, expressing confidence that the ambassador's new tenure would deepen existing ties and facilitate practical benefits for both populations.

Rounding out the diplomatic schedule, Speaker Farrugia received Jorge Edmundo Uribe Pérez, the Ambassador of Ecuador. This meeting provided an opportunity to recall the close collaboration between Malta and Ecuador during their recent shared term as elected members of the United Nations Security Council.

The discussion touched upon the importance of international law and the role of international organizations in promoting peace and stability. Similar to the previous meetings, the dialogue focused on expanding engagement in trade and education. Through these three distinct encounters, the Speaker reaffirmed Malta's proactive role on the international stage, demonstrating a clear intent to foster meaningful partnerships through mutual respect and shared interests.
