The Minister for Gozo and Planning, Clint Camilleri, welcomed with satisfaction the statistics published by the National Statistics Office, which show a positive and sustainable tourism trend in Gozo during 2025, the ministry said in a statement.

In Gozo, the number of foreign tourists who spent one night or more on the island reached 192,021, an increase of 7% over 2024.

Minister Camilleri stated, “It is very encouraging to see a consistent increase in the number of foreign tourists who came to Gozo, with a balanced distribution throughout all seasons of the year. These results confirm that the Government’s strategy to promote Gozo as a year-round tourism destination is bearing fruit.”

In fact, after Gozo experienced only a marginal increase during the summer of 2024 – while the other months registered high growth rates – this trend was replicated again in 2025. The distribution of foreign tourists throughout the seasons was highly balanced, with summer hosting 37%, spring 27%, autumn 26%, and winter 10% of the total tourists who visited last year. Although summer numbers remained the highest, October recorded the largest number of foreign visitors, while December registered the highest growth rate. Every season in 2025 saw increases over the previous year: autumn recorded a 22% increase, winter 11%, spring 2%, and summer 1%.

At the same time, with regards to collective accommodation, the latest official statistics – including both foreign and domestic tourism – show a 22% increase over the previous year, with every month registering relative growth.

Minister Camilleri recalled that connectivity between Malta and Gozo continued to improve, which is also reflected in the increases being observed. During 2025, there were more than 46,000 crossings between the islands – 1,700 more than the previous year – amounting to an average of 126 crossings per day. He also attributed the growth to the Ministry’s continued full investment in the island’s cultural activities. In fact, during the past year, the Ministry for Gozo and Planning supported 326 cultural activities, a factor that is adding value for anyone who chooses Gozo as their destination.

The Minister for Gozo and Planning, Clint Camilleri, concluded by saying that despite this progress, it is understood that such activity also brings challenges, and the Government remains committed to strengthening connectivity further. For this reason, in recent weeks two new vessels were announced, set to begin operating in 2029, with an investment of around €130 million. In addition, a task force was announced to analyse and scrutinize the infrastructural capacity of Mġarr Harbour.
