Bundled telecom services remain popular in Malta, and fixed internet is the anchor service, the Malta Communications Authority said in a statement.
51% of households bundle some or all of their telecom services, a survey carried out by the MCA shows. An additional 31% partially bundle, often keeping mobile telephony as a standalone service. This confirms that bundled offers remain a dominant model in Malta’s telecom market. Bundling is now the norm rather than the exception.
The main reason that households choose bundled offers is operator discounts (48%), followed by single bill convenience (37%) and then fixed monthly costs (31%). While discounts remain important, predictability and simplicity are becoming more influential in consumer decision-making.
82% say fixed internet is the main service prompting bundle purchases (up sharply from 55% in 2023). In comparison, mobile telephony dropped to 12% from 16%, TV tell significantly to 6% from 21%, and fixed telephony is nearly negligible at 1% from 8%. The key takeaway is that fixed internet has clearly become the core driver of bundled subscriptions.
Most households spend between €30 and €69.99 per month. 64% of households fall within this spending bracket, almost unchanged from 63% in 2023. This suggests that pricing levels are relatively stable year-on-year.
Despite cost-of-living pressures, overall satisfaction remains strong, with 72% satisfied with service quality, 69% satisfied with bundle product mix, and 52% satisfied with value for money.
Switching rates remain very low, with only 7% switching bundle services. Among those who switched, 64% experienced no difficulties. The market shows limited churn, but switching appears to be becoming easier for those who di it.
Consumer awareness of rights is also improving. 24%, up from 15%, are aware of early termination fees. 55%, up from 37%, are aware of the right to exit without fees if terms change. This is a strong signal that consumer protection messaging and regulatory oversight are having an impact.
