The government is carrying out repair and regeneration works in St Thomas Bay, Marsaskala, according to a statement by the Ministry of Infrastructure.

Three deteriorating jetties are being rebuilt due to being in an advanced state of decay, and extensive repairs are being done to maritime infrastructure. Furthermore, ongoing works are being carried out to reinforce and protect the inner coastline with rock armouring.

Areas already protected with rock resisted Storm Harry well, while sections not yet protected suffered coastal erosion of several metres inland. According to the Ministry, the works that are being done aim to protect the road and surrounding infrastructure.

During Storm Harry, significant and irreparable damage was caused to an old seawall built decades ago, Infrastructure Minister Chris Bonett said. The seawall structures were completely destroyed. Bonett said that rebuilding works have begun now that the weather conditions have stabilised.

Moreover, recent works have focused on improving walkways and enhancing accessibility. Infrastructure Malta has obtained a permit from the Planning Authority to build new public toilets in the area.

Works in St Thomas Bay are planned to be completed by summer, Bonett said.
