Updated: Bike, four cars involved in Santa Lucija accident

The northbound tunnel at Santa Lucija Tunnel was temporarily closed on Friday morning after a collision involving a motorcycle and four cars.

According to the police, the motorcyclist - a 34-year-old man from Gudja - was taken to Mater Dei Hospital. The police said in a statement later in the afternoon that the man had suffered grievous injuries.

The incident occurred at approximately 7.30am and involved a Honda SH300 motorcycle, a Toyota Vitz driven by a 30-year-old woman from Għaxaq, a Peugeot 208 driven by a 24-year-old woman from Marsaskala, as well as a Fiat Doblo driven by a 42-year-old man from Marsaskala, and a Nissan X-Trail driven by a 44-year-old man from Marsaskala.

The crash caused significant traffic congestion during the morning rush hour, as the northbound lane of Vjal Santa Luċija was closed. The lane was reopened at around 9am.
