Calypso Radio 101.8 said Tuesday it has successfully concluded its special 24-hour broadcast marathon. The initiative aimed to collect essential food supplies for those who rely on the Soup Kitchen's services daily. Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of listeners, a total of 6,583 non-perishable food items were dropped off at the Calypso Radio studios.

This remarkable achievement has been officially recognised as a national record by The Malta Records. The collected supplies, which included pasta, rice, canned goods, long-life milk, cooking oil, breakfast cereals, and tea/coffee, will directly benefit the community. The Soup Kitchen provides meals and shower facilities for approximately 100 individuals daily who are experiencing homelessness and poverty.

Fr Marcellino Micallef, founder of the Soup Kitchen, expressed his profound gratitude to Calypso Radio and its listeners for such an amazing contribution. His team relies on this support to continue providing not just meals, but also access to social work, dental care, and legal support, amongst others.

The team at Calypso Radio 101.8, views this outcome as a testament to the community's compassion. While celebrating the national record, the station's deepest hope is that this benchmark is eventually broken by other organisations. Surpassing this record in the future would mean a growing legacy of goodness, ensuring that the essential lifeline the Soup Kitchen provides remains strong for years to come.
