A total of 786 involuntary admissions were recorded at Mount Carmel Hospital in 2025, Health Minister Jo Etienne Abela told Parliament.

The figure was provided by Abela in response to a parliamentary question by PN MP Graziella Attard Previ, who asked for the number of involuntary admissions registered at the hospital over the past year.

In his reply, the Minister said he was informed that a total of 786 such cases were recorded throughout 2025.

Mount Carmel Hospital is Malta's main mental health facility, with the government announcing plans to phase out the mental health services offered in Mount Carmel hospital around two years ago, for them to be moved to Mater Dei Hospital and provided in the same place physical health services are provided.
