Jasmine won best song in the sixth edition of Mużika Mużika, with her song "Nistaqsi."
Her winning song was composed by Glen Vella, while its lyrics were written by Philip Vella.
In second place of the contest was the song "Niftakarna" - sung by Daniel Cauchi, written by Michael Spagnol, and composed by Daniel Cauchi, Chris Gatt u Robert Spiteri. Kevin Paul's song "Int U Jien" - which he sang, wrote the lyrics to, and partially composed - ended up in third place; Matthew James helped compose the song's music and Edward Abela assisted in writing the lyrics and its composition.
The award for Best Interpretation was won by singer Daniel Cauchi for the song "Niftakarna," while Best Musical Arrangement was won by Edward Mifsud for the song "Nistaqsi." These prizes were selected by the expert jury in the competition final.
Jasmine and her team are taking home a €20,000 prize for their winning song. Meanwhile, second place is receiving a €10,000 sum, while third place will get a €5,000 prize on a separate occasion.
This year's edition marked the first time that this singing competition was broadcasted on five local television stations. It was transmitted on TVM, ONE, FLiving, Smash TV u Xejk TV. A separate transmission on TVM+ was provided in Maltese sign language.
Culture Minister Owen Bonnici stated that Mużika Mużika is living proof that Maltese culture is part and parcel with the present and the next generations in the future, rather than a thing of the past. He added that Mużika Mużika does not only allow for Maltese artists to be promoted, but it makes them contribute strongly to the country's rich cultural history.
He said that every note, and every word, is proof that Malta has talent that deserves the highest honour, and that every song in this festival serves as a reminder of who we really are.
"Art is not a luxury but an identity, it is strength, it is a future and Music unites us, elevates us, and reminds us of who we are - Maltese, first and foremost. Melody is the voice of our identity and our language," Minister Bonnici said.
Festivals Malta Chairman Aaron Zahra thanked all Festivals Malta staff who worked to ensure that this festival was successfully staged, to the highest quality. He also thanked the presenters for their professionalism and wished the contest's winners every success in their future.
"I would like to express my appreciation to everyone who was involved in staging such a prestigious production, especially to the large number of technicians, the artists themselves - the singers, composers and authors for their dedication to Maltese music," Zahra said.
Festivals Malta's chief executive, Frans Agius, praised that the cultural body has succeeded in staging "another successful edition" of this song festival once again. He observed that the Mużika Mużika 2026, which took place between 19-21 March, attracted thousands of live viewers, including inside the hall itself, and garnered several positive feedback.
"This is a testament to the national level that this festival has managed to reach, and we look forward to continuing to see it reach new goals," Agius said. "I congratulate this year's winners and look forward to another edition of Mużika Mużika."
Mużika Mużika chairman Ray Bugeja commended this year's edition as a show "of the highest level, as always." Bugeja said he is grateful for Maltese artists, "who every year offer an excellent performance." In his view, he observed that all songs were of such a professional level that he is sure that it was difficult for the live audience and the competition jury to select a winning song. He concluded that "this is what makes Mużika Mużika truly a festival in its own class."
The contest's artistic director, Paul Abela, said he was pleased with the level of all 16 original songs and their performances in this year's edition.
The Ministry for Culture thanked everyone involved in this competition, as well as viewers who watched this year's festival.
