An international group of female artists will come together this spring in Sicily for Acqua Filo Mano Luce, a contemporary art exhibition opening at Quam Gallery in Scicli on 28 March and running until 28 April 2026.

Curated by Maltese curator Christine Xuereb, the exhibition brings together four artists from Italy and Malta - Beatrice Pediconi, Federica Tomasello, Manuela Toselli and Mireille Vella - whose diverse artistic approaches create a dialogue around material, gesture and perception.

The exhibition explores diversity not simply as contrast, but as a source of creative strength. According to Xuereb, the project invites audiences to reconsider "which voices, materials and methods have been historically marginalised," suggesting that what is often perceived as fragile can instead be understood as a space of openness, transformation and renewal.

Each artist contributes a distinct visual language. Pediconi presents refined works on paper featuring delicate floral forms created through a distinctive technique. Tomasello's pieces evoke marine landscapes bathed in the soft glow of Mediterranean pastel dust, while Toselli introduces richly textured compositions marked by expressive colour and painterly threads. Vella's works, meanwhile, reinterpret and deconstruct natural imagery through a contemporary visual lens.

The exhibition was conceived by Antonio Sarnari of Quam Gallery as a project bringing together female artists from northern Italy and the Mediterranean, united by painting and contemporary visual experimentation.

Acqua Filo Mano Luce will open on Saturday 28 March at 6:30pm at Quam Gallery in Via F. Mormino Penna, Scicli, in the presence of the curator and the participating artists. Admission is free, and guided tours will be available in Italian and English.
