The Malta Federation of Organisations Persons with Disability (MFOPD) has launched a research initiative focused on improving support for persons with disabilities, the Ministry for Inclusion said in a statement.

The project was funded through the Voluntary Organisations Projects Scheme (VOPS), administered by the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector (MCVS), with nearly €10,000 investment.

The findings of the project were presented in the presence of Inclusion Minister Julia Farrugia and MCVS CEO Mauro Pace Parascandalo.

"VOPS, apart from projects, also includes research, which is very important in order to inform the volunteer sector in a more organised and scientific manner," Pace Parascandalo said.

MFOPD organised 16 focus groups involving member organisations to assess current practices, identify gaps, and plan future collaboration. The initiative reinforces the principle "Nothing About Us Without Us".

The consultation process aims to strengthen stakeholders' work, improve services, enhance rights and quality of life for persons with disabilities and their families, and ensure equal access to opportunities, the Ministry said.

"It is gratifying for us that through VOPS funds we are continuing to invest directly in the voluntary sector, in order to give a stronger voice to persons with disability and the organisations that represent them," Farrugia said.
