Momentum has submitted a Freedom of Information request to Transport Malta seeking detailed data on all billboard permits issued since 1 March 2026, including compliance with Planning Authority regulations and insurance requirements.
The request also asks for documentation such as planning permit references, structural stability certifications endorsed by a perit or engineer, and confirmation that licences are properly issued and affixed, the party said in a statement Monday.
The FOI specifically seeks information on the number and locations of new billboards, the companies holding licences, confirmation of valid permits, structural safety certifications and inspections, insurance coverage, measures to safeguard pedestrian access (including for wheelchair and pushchair users), the presence of billboards on pavements and public rights of way, compliance with legal requirements, any impact assessments carried out, the number of illegal or non-compliant structures identified, and enforcement action taken, including fines, removals, or revocations.
Momentum candidate Dr Matthew Agius said the issue goes beyond aesthetics or messaging, stressing that it concerns public safety, rule of law, and equal access to public space. The party is calling for full transparency and stricter enforcement to ensure public spaces are not compromised by political or commercial interests.
