Żaren tal-Ajkla first to submit nomination for May general election

Independent candidate Nazzareno Bonnici, widely known as "Żaren tal-Ajkla", was the first person to submit his nomination for the upcoming general election as the official nomination process opened on Thursday morning.

In a statement, the Electoral Commission said that Bonnici submitted his nomination between 9am and 1pm on Thursday, the opening day of the nomination period for the 30 May general election.

Bonnici filed as an independent candidate on both the third and sixth districts.

The nomination process officially opened on Thursday and will remain open until Monday, 7pm, 11 May.

The Electoral Commission reminded all prospective candidates that online submissions must be fully completed before the deadline expires.

Candidates submitting nominations in person must ensure they are physically present at the Electoral Commission offices in Naxxar before the 7pm deadline on Monday, the Commission said.

Bonnici, popularly known as "Żaren tal-Ajkla," has previously contested elections as an independent candidate and is known for his outspoken campaigning style and colourful public appearances.
