A new Labour proposal to lower the breast screening age to 45 formed was unusually disclosed by the Prime Minister's wife Lydia Abela on Mother's Day.

She also said the government would invest in new screening machines with greater precision, while the screening unit would be relocated from Lascaris Wharf to the National Screening Centre in Floriana.

Abela further announced plans for Malta's first national strategy on women's health, aimed at ensuring women have access to comprehensive healthcare services free from prejudice at every stage of life.

The discussion focused on pregnancy and childbirth, parenting, and the challenges women face beyond motherhood.

Abela also announced a national educational campaign to combat stereotypes linked to child upbringing and the distribution of family responsibilities.
