Wings of Summer Memories: Glendine Chisholm a solo exhibition at Gallery 23

Thursday, 14 May 2026, 10:56 Last update: about 3 months ago

Returning to the walls of Gallery 23 in Balzan, Glendine Chisholm brings with her a vibrant new body of work. In this latest collection Wings of Summer Memories, she explores the intersection of distance and belonging with a deeply personal perspective. Having traveled from South Africa to Malta each summer for the past four years to visit her son, the island has transformed from a destination into a profound muse.

In these works, a quiet dialogue unfolds between two hemispheres. Glendine finds a familiar rhythm in the Maltese landscape as the rugged terrain and resilient flora of  Malta mirror the sun-baked soul of South Africa.

Presented from a birds-eye view, these works invite us to look down upon the sun-drenched landscapes of the Mediterranean as if through the eyes of a traveler in flight. Just as the birds migrate home to the warmth of summer each year, Glendine captures these nostalgic moments through vibrant colour, rich textures, and a signature play of light.

This exhibition is a visual diary of those precious months, a tribute to the warmth of the Maltese sun, the strength of family ties, and the way an island can carve its way into the soul of an artist.

Wings of Summer Memories will open on 24 May and run till 5 June.

Open Days at Gallery 23: Sundays: 10.30am to 1pm and Wednesdays: 6 to 8pm
