Prime Minister Robert Abela declared victory for the Labour Party after indications showed it had secured a fourth consecutive general election win, describing the result as a historic achievement and a mandate from the Maltese and Gozitan people.

Speaking on the national TV station, Abela said all signs pointed to the Labour Party making history by winning four successive general elections. He stressed that the result was not only a victory for the party but also for the people of Malta and Gozo.

Abela said the Labour Party's electoral programme had been designed to benefit all Maltese and Gozitans, adding that early indications suggested voters had granted the party a strong mandate despite it already being in government for several terms.

The Prime Minister called for national unity in the aftermath of the election, urging the country to move forward together.

"We are one population that need to lead the country forward," he said, pledging to continue serving as Prime Minister for all Maltese and Gozitans.

Abela also thanked the public for its participation in the democratic process, praising voters for the way they had exercised their democratic right during the election.

Speaking to the media, Labour MEP Alex Agius Saliba said the result was not only a victory for the Labour Party, but also a historic moment for the Maltese and Gozitan people.

"The Labour Party has not only made history, but the Maltese and Gozitan people have written history," he said.

Agius Saliba said that since elections were first held in Malta in 1921, no political party had ever been entrusted with governing for a fourth consecutive term.

He said the result showed that the Labour Party continues to share the same vision that first earned the trust of voters in 2013.

"These are the elements that led to the Labour Party continuing to be trusted by the people, that it has remained faithful to that vision," he said.

Agius Saliba added that every vote received by Labour brings with it greater responsibility, saying the party was fully aware of the mandate it had been given by voters.

"We know what we were given this mandate for. We were elected on the most social and ambitious electoral manifesto," he said.

Looking ahead to the next five years, and Labour's fourth consecutive term in government, Agius Saliba said the trust placed in Prime Minister Robert Abela and his team must now be translated into further work to implement the party's manifesto.

Deputy Prime Minister Ian Borg described Labour's election victory as a clear message from voters that they want the party to continue governing, after the party secured an unprecedented fourth consecutive electoral win.

Speaking to the media, Borg said the outcome reflected the public's confidence in Labour's vision for the country and its programme for the years to come.

"The people have clearly shown that they want the Labour Party to keep moving forward," Borg said.

He said that the Labour Party has a manifesto full of plans for Malta and Gozo and will continue to work to turn those dreams into reality.

Borg also pointed to strong voter participation, noting that more people took part in the election compared to four years ago. He said the turnout proved the importance voters placed on making their voices heard.

While celebrating the victory, Borg acknowledged that the result would bring mixed emotions across different voters. He appealed to Labour supporters to celebrate responsibly and respectfully.

"I understand that there are those who are happy and those who are disappointed with this result," he said. "I appeal to everyone who is celebrating to do so with serenity."

Large celebrations are expected to take place following the result, with Labour supporters marking what Borg described as a historic achievement for the party.

He stressed the significance of the victory, noting that no political party in Malta had ever won four consecutive elections.

"After a strong campaign, the people have once again placed their trust in us," Borg said. "No party has ever achieved four consecutive victories like this."
