The funny side of it: Clyde Caruana and Adrian Delia share picture holding a calculator

Sunday, 31 May 2026, 09:10 Last update: about 4 months ago

Minutes before votes began being counted on Sunday morning, politicians Clyde Caruana and Adrian Delia were all smiles as they shared a picture together holding a calculator.

The picture was shared on Finance Minister Caruana's Facebook page. Caruana, who served as Finance Minister, captioned the post "One country" to comment that with all the criticisms laid out by each major party to one another, all politicians are ultimately working for a better Malta.

Throughout this electoral campaign this past month, one major criticism levelled by the governing Labour Party (PL) to the Nationalist (PN) Opposition was that several of the PN's financial calculations were not adding up. The PL repeatedly stated that if the PN couldn't even come up with solid calculations for its electoral pledges, then it is not fit to govern.

Through these criticisms, Finance Minister Caruana critiqued that "the PN's calculator" is not functioning.

In rebuttal to one particular criticism of a PN housing proposal, the Nationalist Party - through its finance spokesperson, Delia, and in general - had responded that the PN's figures were actually correct, in spite of the PL's public remarks, and that "the PL's calculator" was actually mistaken.

Both Delia and Caruana are expected to be re-elected.

The two major candidates both contested the eighth district. Caruana also contested the second district while Delia also ran on the seventh district.
