Former Nationalist Party MP Charles Azzopardi is recovering in hospital after being admitted to intensive care following what he described as a collapse late on Sunday night.

In a social media post published on Tuesday, Azzopardi said he had been unable to respond to the many messages and calls he received after suffering the medical emergency.

"On Sunday night, into the early hours of Monday morning, I collapsed and ended up in ITU," he wrote. "Now, by the grace of God, I have left intensive care and am slowly recovering."

Azzopardi thanked those who had contacted him and said that, on doctors' orders, his health would remain his immediate priority.

"For now, I need to give absolute priority to my health," he said.

In the 2026 general election, the former PN MP was not elected in either District 7 or District 12.

He received about 1,000 votes in the seventh district, losing to Rebekah Borg and Adrian Delia. He received 154 first-count votes in the 12th district.
