Demolition and excavation works will be prohibited in selected tourist zones between 15 June and 30 September 2026 as part of a coordinated initiative between the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA).
The measure, enforced under Subsidiary Legislation 623.08 (Third Schedule 1c), aims to reduce the disruption caused by construction sites to nearby residents, hotels, and the tourism sector during the peak summer season.
Authorities noted that demolition and excavation phases are among the most disruptive stages of construction activity, particularly in heavily frequented tourist areas and residential zones where more Maltese families are choosing to reside.
Any illegal demolition or excavation works taking place between 15 June and 30 September 2026 within the identified localities and streets may be reported to the BCA on freephone 138 in both Malta and Gozo, during and after office hours.
