The conclusion of the casual elections on the Labour Party side has also determined who are the six PL women candidates who would be elected via the gender mechanism process.

Four women were elected for Labour in the casual elections held on Friday, opening up the possibility for Labour to elect six other women candidates if the gender corrective mechanism is implemented in full.

They are Cressida Galea, Fleur Abela, Francesca Zarb, Yana Borg Debono Grech, Deborah Schembri and Romilda Zarb.

Galea, Schembri and Romilda Zarb would be making a return to Parliament - Galea and Zarb also served in the last legislature while Schembri served in the Joseph Muscat government.

Abela, Francesca Zarb and Borg Debono Grech would be newcomers.

The gender mechanism process will officially kick in once the casual elections to replace Nationalist Party candidates who were elected takes place on Tuesday.
