A 35-year-old man from Mellieħa is fighting for his life after a boating accident yesterday afternoon at Mġarr Harbour in Gozo, the police said Thursday.
Police were alerted to the incident at approximately 3.15pm following reports that a boat had capsized. Upon arriving at the scene, authorities discovered that the man had been in difficulty on his vessel before it overturned. Nearby bystanders acted quickly, providing initial assistance and pulling the man from the water.
Members of the Armed Forces of Malta subsequently brought him safely to the Mġarr wharf.
He was initially rushed to the Gozo General Hospital by ambulance but was later transferred to Mater Dei Hospital, where medical staff confirmed that he had sustained serious injuries.
Magistrate Dr. Monica Vella LL.D has launched a magisterial inquiry, and ongoing police investigations are currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
