The Ministry for Education and Sport on Tuesday announced the appointment of Kurt Farrugia as Chief Executive Officer of Residenza Malta with effect from 1 July 2026.

Farrugia moved out of Transport Malta where he served as CEO after disagreement with Sustainable Mobility Minister Chris Bonett.

The Education Ministry said Farrugia "brings extensive leadership experience across government and the public sector". Throughout his career, he has served as Head of Government Communications and spokesperson to the Prime Minister, Chief Executive Officer of Malta Enterprise, and most recently Chief Executive Officer of Transport Malta.

Minister Byron Camilleri welcomed the appointment, expressing confidence that Farrugia's experience in public administration, strategic planning and organisational leadership will further strengthen Residenza Malta's mission of attracting talent and investment that contribute to Malta's continued economic and social development.

The Ministry also expressed its appreciation for the contribution of the late Jonathan Cardona, whose dedication and vision played an important role in the growth and success of Residenza Malta.
