PN candidate vows to protect Nadur’s vandalised shelter

Saturday, 4 July 2026, 15:12 Last update: about 1 hour ago

The ancient stone walls of the underground shelter in Nadur, which were meant to be a sanctuary, a silent witness to history that deserved preservation and respect, have been vandalised.

For Luke Said, a candidate for the Nationalist Party, this site has become more than just a historical project; it has become a battleground for heritage.

Determined to ensure public safety, Said took the immediate step of securing the entrance, he said on Facebook. However, the path of preservation proved difficult. No sooner had he locked the site than the padlock was severed by vandals.

Undeterred, he replaced it, only for the second lock to meet the same fate. Despite the repeated violations and the heavy shadow of vandalism, Said remains steadfast.

He has filed a formal report with the police and is currently navigating the necessary channels to secure official permission from the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage to begin the restoration process.

For him, this is not just about cleaning up graffiti or clearing debris; it is a commitment to ensuring that this unique piece of history is preserved so that future generations can understand and appreciate the resilience of the past.

As the dust settles, his message is clear: he will not give up.
