30 firefighters are currently tackling a large grass fire in the Ħal Farruġ area of Luqa, with no injuries reported so far.
The Civil Protection Department said it has deployed 12 fire appliances, including fire engines and water carriers, to contain the flames.
As a precaution, firefighters involved in the operation are being regularly monitored by the department's in-house nursing team together with medical personnel from Mater Dei Hospital's Emergency Department.
A number of other entities are also assisting with the operation, including the Malta International Airport Fire Section, the Emergency Fire and Rescue Unit, St John Ambulance and Rescue Malta, Civil Protection Department volunteers, the Detention Services, the Malta Police Force and Transport Malta.
The Civil Protection Department thanked all the agencies involved for their cooperation and support as efforts to bring the fire under control continue.
