Naxxar phone shop offers free emergency charging during power cuts

A mobile phone shop in Naxxar is offering free emergency charging to people affected by the ongoing power cuts across Malta and Gozo, particularly those relying on essential medical devices.

Phoneitel, located on 21st September Avenue, has opened its doors to anyone without electricity who needs to charge a phone used for medical reasons, an emergency medical device, or a USB-C device used by a child, an elderly family member or another dependent.

The business said the service is being provided free of charge, with no purchase required, to assist those most affected by the prolonged electricity outages.

The initiative comes as Malta and Gozo continue to experience widespread power cuts amid record electricity demand during an intense heatwave.

Electricity consumption has exceeded the previous all-time peak of 663MW, placing increased pressure on the distribution network and leading to repeated localised faults in a number of areas.

The outages have left some households without electricity for extended periods as high temperatures persist.

Phonitel said the emergency charging service is available daily from 8am to 8pm.

The shop encouraged anyone in need of the service to visit its premises on 21st September Avenue, Naxxar, or contact the business on 79775000 for further information.
