Retired judge Silvio Meli has died on Monday morning, He was 72.
Meli served as a magistrate from 1990 to 2001, then became a judge and retired in 2019.
Meli specialised in civil law, authored several publications on aspects of the law, and lectured at the University of Malta's Faculty of Law.
He also served as the founding president of the Fair-Trade Commission and President of the National Commission against Drug and Alcohol Abuse.
Prime Minister Robert Abela posted a tribute to Meli, remembering him for his "strong sense of justice, particularly to the most vulnerable members of society."
