Former Speaker Anglu Farrugia has been named as the recipient of the prestigious Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Lifetime Achievement Award for 2026.

This international recognition celebrates decades of dedicated public service, robust parliamentary leadership, and an unwavering commitment to advancing democratic institutions and good governance both nationally and across the wider Commonwealth network.

Farrugia served as Speaker of the House of Representatives for a record 13 years.

In the letter Farrugia received announcing the award, the judging panel said it selected Farrugia for "your distinguished parliamentary career and your outstanding contribution to Parliament, democracy and public service over many years".

"The judging panel was particularly impressed by your record of achievement as a Parliamentarian, your contribution to strengthening democratic institutions and good governance, and the lasting impact of your work within Parliament and across the Commonwealth," the letter said.

The formal presentation of the award is scheduled to take place during the high-profile 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference, convening on September 17 in Cape Town, South Africa.
