Malta will host the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) Global Summit between 7 and 9 October 2026, bringing together more than 200 global leaders from the travel and tourism sector, the Ministry for Tourism said in a statement.

The summit is expected to attract tourism executives, investors, policymakers and industry experts from around the world to discuss the future of global travel and tourism.

According to the ministry, hosting the event reflects Malta's growing profile within the international tourism industry and supports the country's strategy of promoting higher-quality, sustainable and future-oriented tourism. The summit is also expected to provide opportunities for collaboration, investment and knowledge-sharing while strengthening Malta's ties with the global tourism community.

The government said the event will showcase how Malta is combining its cultural heritage and traditions with innovation and technology, while maintaining the hospitality sector's focus on the visitor experience.

Tourism Minister Jo Etienne Abela said the summit is intended to demonstrate not only what Malta currently offers as a destination but also its long-term vision for the sector.

"Our vision is clear: we want quality tourism that creates value," Abela said, adding that the government will continue investing in infrastructure, connectivity and innovation while improving the visitor experience and protecting Malta's identity, heritage, environment and hospitality.

WTTC President and Chief Executive Gloria Guevara described Malta as being at the centre of the global conversation on travel and tourism during the summit. She thanked the Maltese government and the Malta Tourism Authority for their support in bringing the event to Malta and said the organisation looked forward to showcasing the country's tourism success while working towards a more resilient, innovative and sustainable future for the industry.

Malta Tourism Authority Chief Executive Carlo Micallef said the summit provides an opportunity to present Malta not only as it is today but also as the destination it aims to become. He said the authority remains focused on improving the quality of visitor experiences while creating long-term value and protecting local communities, heritage and national identity.
