Prime Minister Robert Abela has inaugurated the Marnisi Wine Estate, with an investment of over €5.8 million by a Maltese family-run enterprise, €2.2 million of it being sourced from European funds, the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) said in a statement.

This project builds upon more than a century of winemaking expertise, the OPM said, and will further strengthen a high-quality Maltese product while generating added value for sectors such as agriculture and tourism.

"This is precisely how European funds should work: not as an end in themselves, but as a catalyst for further private investment that creates productive assets, economic activity, and opportunities that will endure in our country for years to come," the Prime Minister said.

Abela noted that the Marnisi Wine Estate represents the story of a Maltese family enterprise, combining 107 years of winemaking experience with a new generation that continues to invest, innovate, and build for the future.

The investment also blends tradition with modern technology and a commitment to sustainability. Marnisi is the only certified organic wine estate in Malta, employing production methods that prioritise both product quality and environmental protection. The Prime Minister also emphasised the contribution that investments of this kind can make to Malta's tourism product. The Marnisi Wine Estate offers an experience that blends Maltese wine with agriculture, gastronomy, architecture, and the landscape, while further strengthening the tourism offered in the south of Malta.

"When Maltese wine reaches an international table and is recognised for its quality, it is not merely a bottle being exported; it carries Malta's name with it," Abela said.

He concluded by stating that this investment reflects confidence in Maltese enterprise, in the skills of our people, and in Malta's capacity to produce premium products that generate value locally and compete on an international level.

Abela was accompanied by the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Anton Refalo, and the Minister for European Funds, Social Dialogue and Consumer Protection, Keith Azzopardi Tanti.
