Malta's nomination of Dr Andria Buhagiar to serve as a judge at the General Court of the European Union has been officially accepted, marking a notable milestone for the country's legal representation in Europe.

Buhagiar was nominated by the Maltese Government to succeed Judge Ramona Frendo, who has transitioned to serve as a judge at the Court of Justice of the European Union, the government said.

The Maltese Government welcomed the appointment, with Minister for Justice, Research, and Innovation Clifton Grima extending his best wishes to Buhagiar for success in her new role. Minister Grima also expressed gratitude for her dedicated service over recent years in her previous capacity as Deputy State Advocate.

With this appointment, Malta will now have two judges serving concurrently at the General Court of the European Union. This development highlights the high caliber of Maltese legal professionals and reinforces Malta's ongoing contribution to the administration of justice at the European level.
