In October, the "Opera is Gozo 2026" festival will once again bring Gozo to life through music, culture, and operatic tradition. The Minister for Gozo, Clint Camilleri, officially launched the programme, which aims to deliver high-quality performances throughout the month and further strengthen the island's reputation as a center of cultural excellence.
Minister Camilleri stated that in October, Gozo celebrates its operatic tradition by welcoming audiences from Malta and abroad to enjoy exceptional performances in a uniquely atmospheric setting. He encouraged everyone to experience not only the opera performances, but also the island's unique character, hospitality, and heritage, emphasizing that the initiative is a celebration of local people, creativity, and cultural legacy shared with the world.
The artistic highlight of the season will feature two major opera productions. On October 17, Giuseppe Verdi's "La Traviata" will be staged at the Aurora Opera Theatre, bringing one of the most beloved and emotional stories in the operatic repertoire to the stage. Later in the month, on October 29 and 31, Giacomo Puccini's "Madama Butterfly" will be performed at the Astra Theatre in a production designed to captivate audiences with its emotional power and musical beauty.
Minister Camilleri explained that these two productions will offer memorable evenings of music and theatre, showcasing the high artistic standard with which Gozo hosts this vital genre. He also expressed appreciation to all those who contribute to making the festival possible every year through their hard work and dedication.
Alongside the main opera productions, the festival's diverse cultural calendar will include concerts, exhibitions, lectures, recitals, and other activities celebrating the island's artistic heritage while encouraging new audiences to discover the beauty of opera.
Minister Camilleri concluded by wishing all attendees a memorable experience at Opera is Gozo 2026. Further information and the full programme booklet can be accessed via eventsingozo.com/opera-is-gozo-2026/#programme-booklet or through the Events in Gozo App.
