Moviment Graffitti, Repubblika and Occupy Justice will hold a protest concert at Triton Square, Valletta, on 4 October, bringing together Maltese alternative music artists to call for truth, justice and institutional accountability.

The organisations said the concert would be a protest in which music would serve as a form of civic action, with artists performing songs of protest, resistance and dissent.

The event comes nine years after the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia and follows a protest held in Valletta on 16 September, which the organisations said drew thousands of people in solidarity with her family and in support of calls for truth, justice and institutional reform.

In a joint statement, the organisations said the pursuit of justice remained unfinished, claiming that recommendations from the Public Inquiry had yet to be implemented and that Malta still needed effective anti-mafia laws and stronger protection for journalists and whistleblowers.

They said the 16 September protest demonstrated that many people remained unwilling to accept that these issues had been forgotten or resolved.

The 4 October protest will also feature brief interventions by individuals and organisations involved in the fight for justice.

The organisers said the event respected the courts and judicial process, with its demands focused on the accountability of institutions and people holding political power.
