Speaker of the House of Representatives Carmelo Abela visited the Junior College during Freshers' Week, meeting students and visiting information stands set up as part of the start of the new academic year, the Office of the Speaker said in a statement.
Abela was welcomed by members of the college leadership, including Principal Paul Xuereb and Chairperson Prof. Emanuel Said.
During the visit, the Speaker highlighted the role of Freshers' Week in helping both new and returning students familiarise themselves with the academic services and support available at the college.
"It is a pleasure for me to visit the Junior College and meet the students at the beginning of this academic year," Abela said.
He also emphasised the importance of links between Parliament and educational institutions, saying that engagement with students can help young people gain a better understanding of Parliament's work and their role in democratic life.
According to the Office of the Speaker, collaboration and dialogue between Parliament and educational institutions can contribute to bringing Parliament closer to young people and the wider public.
Abela also congratulated the organisers and the college management for their efforts to create a welcoming environment and provide students with the support needed to pursue their studies and develop their talents.
