No one was injured after part of the ground collapsed during ongoing works in Tarxien Square, the Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA) and the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) said in a joint statement Monday.
Officials from both authorities, alongside other relevant entities, arrived on site shortly after the incident to conduct technical assessments, gauge the situation, and identify potential safety risks.
Both agencies emphasised that the health and safety of workers, local residents, and the general public remain their top priority. Necessary safety precautions are being implemented, and further mitigation measures based on expert evaluations will follow to control any potential risks effectively.
As part of the response, technical experts are carrying out an assessment of current ground conditions, including underground structures, to determine the operational and structural steps required to ensure the stability of the area. Safety measures will be continuously updated in line with expert recommendations and ongoing findings.
Infrastructure Malta is coordinating directly with the involved authorities, the statement said, and technical experts to execute all required actions swiftly. Officials said that work will proceed in step with expert risk evaluations, ensuring that any further operational measures are taken only after all safety risks have been thoroughly identified and addressed.
