The trial by jury of Lorin Scicluna, who stands accused of the racially motivated murder of Lassane Cisse, enters its fourth day on Thursday morning, with further witnesses expected to take the stand.

Proceedings are expected to resume before Madam Justice Natasha Galea Sciberras.

Scicluna is represented by defence lawyers Edward Gatt, Kris Busietta and Alessandro Farrugia.

The prosecution is being led by lawyers Darlene Grima, Abigail Caruana Vella and Michaela Aquilina from the Attorney General's Office.

10:00 Defence lawyer Kris Busietta questions Steven Farrugia Sacco about telephone calls made on 6 April 2019 from Fenech's number to another number under examination.

The witness confirms the first call takes place at 10:08am and lasts just four seconds.

Busietta then asks whether further calls are made shortly afterwards, before drawing the witness's attention to a particular call made at 2:28pm on the same day, lasting 19 minutes and 45 seconds. Farrugia Sacco confirms the details.

The defence lawyer further asks the witness to confirm that no additional calls are made between the two numbers following that conversation until 10:28pm that evening.

Farrugia Sacco confirms this.

09:53 During cross-examination, defence lawyer Kris Busietta questions lawyer Steven Farrugia Sacco about a section of his report referring to a CD containing a statement given by Lorin Scicluna.

Busietta then refers the witness to another section of the report, which Farrugia Sacco says he recognised as Francesco Fenech's statement, despite the handwriting not being his own.

The defence lawyer asks whether the witness had been provided with CDs containing the audio-visual statements of both Scicluna and Fenech.

Farrugia Sacco explains his role involved verifying that the copies were in good condition.

Busietta also questions the witness about a separate report in which he had been tasked with analysing communications between mobile phone numbers, specifically two numbers identified as belonging to Lorin Scicluna and Grace Fenech.

09:13 Lawyer Steven Farrugia Sacco is the first witness to take the stand, having prepared two reports as part of the inquiry.

The first involved collecting data and analysing files, although he did not specify their contents.

The second report concerned an analysis of call and SMS data relating to two mobile phone numbers. The analysis sought to establish the nature of communication between the two numbers. The expert confirms the examination yielded findings, with his conclusions outlined at the end of the report.

09:12 Jurors and judge Natasha Galea Sciberras take their place with proceedings about to begin.
