A 36-year-old man from Marsa was jailed for 18 months and fined Lm50 after he pleaded guilty to stealing a car stereo.

Victor Fenech pleaded guilty, before presiding magistrate Saviour Demicoli, to stealing a car stereo in Marsa to the detriment of Alan Debono on 30 September between 3.15pm and 4.30pm.

He also pleaded guilty to carrying a pointed, sharp instrument without a police licence and relapsing.

Prosecuting officer Mario Tonna pointed out that Fenech has a serious problem of drug addiction and requested the court to help him address the problem.

In handing down his judgement, magistrate Demicoli noted Fenech’s early guilty plea and criminal record and jailed him for 18 months and fined him Lm50.

Magistrate Demicoli also recommended the director of the Corradino Correctional Facility to ensure that the problem of Fenech’s drug addiction is addressed.

Police Inspector Mario Tonna prosecuted.
