FTIAS marks World Blood Donor Day at SmartCity Malta

Monday, 10 July 2017, 13:04 Last update: about 8 years ago

To mark World Blood Donor Day, FTIAS Limited organised a blood donation drive for its employees and other business partners based at SmartCity Malta.  The blood donation drive was held on Thursday, 15 June between 8.30am and 1pm at SmartCity Malta

This event formed part of FTIAS's ongoing corporate social responsibility initiatives and its drive to encourage employees to venture out of their comfort zone and participate in this noble cause. Nowadays, this event has become a tradition at FTIAS, with the first blood donation organised in 2008 and from there regular blood drives have been co-ordinated.

The blood donation drive was held in collaboration with the National Blood Transfusion Service that seeks to raise awareness of the importance of voluntary blood donation and encourages new and existing blood donors to donate blood regularly throughout the year.

World Blood Donor Day serves to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank blood donors for their life-saving gift. Blood is an important resource, both for planned treatments and urgent interventions. It can help patients suffering from life-threatening conditions live longer and with a higher quality of life and supports complex medical and surgical procedures. Blood is also vital for treating the wounded during emergencies.
