Maltese athletes win 192 medals in Special Olympics

Maltese athletes won a total of 192 medals in the Special Olympics Malta Invitational Games which were held over the course of the last few days.

The Games will end on Tuesday evening in a closing ceremony in Valletta.

Out of the 192 medals, 65 of those were gold, 60 were silver, and 67 were bronze.

17 gold medals were achieved in swimming, followed by 16 in athletics and another 16 in bocce. 14 gold medals were won in bowling, while a single gold medal was won in table tennis, and another in football.

The organisers described the games in a statement as “a very remarkable and exciting four days of practical inclusivity through sport.”

This was the first international Special Olympics event held in Europe in almost two and a half years, as Malta welcomed almost 1,000 athletes from 23 countries for the Games.
