The accused, who are aged between 17 and 23, pleaded guilty to stealing 11 cars from private owners between October 2003 and March of this year.
They also admitted stealing 11 car stereo systems, an amplifier and two windshields. In addition, they admitted wilfully damaging all the vehicles to gain access to them and driving without licences or valid insurance cover. The court, presided over by Magistrate Miriam Hayman, gave all the accused two-year jail terms suspended for four years. Police inspector Stephen Mallia prosecuted while Dr Toni Abela, Dr Ian Farrugia, Dr Edward Zammit Lewis, Dr Roberto Montalto and Dr Martin Fenech appeared for defence.
