Malta Independent Saturday, 10 April 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The young man, who was driving from the university roundabout towards Msida in a Volkswagen Polo, lost control of his vehicle and hit an electricity pole at about 1pm yesterday.

The car flipped over, ending up on the opposite carriageway, and the driver was lucky that no cars were coming from the opposite direction. A paramedic crew arrived on the scene and rushed the motorist to St Luke’s where doctors certified that, while serious, his injuries were not life-threatening (breaks are considered to be serious injuries).

The young man has been kept in hospital for observation. The duty magistrate was informed and appointed a number of experts to assist in an on-site inquiry. Msida police are investigating.

Meanwhile, a 10-year-old boy was in a critical but stable condition after the car in which he was travelling was involved in a traffic accident in Zejtun on Wednesday night.

A 20-year-old woman from Santa Lucia who was driving the car sustained slight injuries.

A police report said that the woman lost control of the Peugeot she was driving in Cospicua Road and crashed into an electricity pole on the centre strip. Duty magistrate Dr Consuelo Scerri Herrera appointed several experts to help in her investigations.
