In a statement released by the Infrastructure and Resources Ministry yesterday, it was revealed that routine tests showed that part of the surface was not laid according to established standards.

The additional expenses will have to be absorbed by the contractor.

The ministry said all the roads in Paceville are being checked to ensure that they are top-notch. The work is expected to be completed before June is out and this will allow both Maltese and tourists to enjoy a better Paceville in summer.

The work also consists of new pavements and lighting for the area. Most of the work was carried out by Works Division employees. The ministry said that while it was an ambitious project, it was very welcoming to see that it is set to be completed within the deadline.

The ministry apologised for any inconvenience caused but said the tests were needed to ensure a high-quality end product. The ministry also advised that the work to the bottom end of Wilga Street will result in it being closed to traffic tomorrow.
