The association became indispensable after the recent extensive changes adopted in the European Community Competition Law, especially after Regulation 1 of 2003 came into force after 1 May.
The conference was held at the hall of the first civil chamber of the Cour de Cassation which was made available by the court’s Premier President M. Guy Canivet.
Discussions to try and improve the substantive and procedural issues followed the speakers’ addresses. These discussions attempted to strengthen the process.
At the end of the conference, Magistrate Meli was elected to the Council of the Association as well as being appointed to act as a member of a select group, whose chairman is Mr Justice Nicholas Kearns of the High Court of Ireland.The magistrate was entrusted with the task of entering into a constructive dialogue with the European Commission to find solutions to the problems raised by the enforcement of Regulation 1 of 2003. He would also help draw up a set of procedural rules to draw attention to the concerns of the members of the association.
