Public Broadcasting Services was granted the rights to air the Champions’ League with the contract stipulating that it must broadcast at least two matches live every week.

To this effect PBS used to broadcast the Tuesday matches on Channel 12, while Wednesday games were transmitted on TVM. In fact, over the past year PBS actually transmitted four full games, two of them as a film following the live match.

Channel 12 has been closed and therefore, if PBS wants to maintain its contract, it must use TVM for Champions’ League games on Tuesday too. This will interfere with one of TVM’s most popular programmes, Bondi Plus, which is normally aired on Tuesday. If Champions’ League matches are shown live on TVM on Tuesday, Bondi Plus will have to be moved to another day, or shifted to a

different time.

Contacted by The Malta Independent, PBS chief executive officer Andrew Psaila confirmed that the Champions’ League will still be broadcast live on TVM and said that the company was working on the next season’s schedule. He said that nothing was fixed yet and therefore he could not give any specific details.
