Mr Camilleri’s one-man marathon took place on Tuesday, 24 August and ended at about 7pm in Birzebbuga, having taken him two hours and 53 minutes. The ministry has expressed its thanks to Azzopardi Fisheries and Riviera Barcelo Hotel for their support.

Life Cycle is a sport-oriented charity organisation founded in 1999 and its three main aims are:

• to raise funds for the renal unit at St Luke’s Hospital,

• to promote organ donation and

• to educate the public about the causes of kidney failure such as diabetes and hypertension.

The main fund-raising event of Life Cycle is an annual gruelling cycling marathon of over 1,500kms across Europe, which this year begins tomorrow.

It is carried out by a number of very dedicated cyclists, together with a solid back-up team of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and a logistics team.

Such an event depends for its success entirely upon sponsorship and the generosity of the public.
