The agreement, which is valid until 2007, will ensure improved working conditions for the company’s employees, which in turn should lead to improved service for customers.

UHM secretary general Gejtu Vella praised the way in which negotiations had been conducted. He commented that in this collective agreement, the main focus was on providing employees with sustainable job security and improved work conditions, which will help to provide a better service by the company to its customers. Melita Cable chairman Joe Gasan said that he was indeed pleased to be signing this first collective agreement, as he was sure that it would increase the confidence of Melita Cable’s employees in their future with the Company.

He stressed the importance of a happy, motivated and professionally well-trained workforce, as being essential to meet the challenges and take the opportunities that the future offered. Mr Gasan said that Melita Cable is considering new initiatives and an expansion of its services to its clients.

The agreement was signed by Mr Gasan and Joseph the company’s chief executive officer R. Aquilina and Mr Vella and Lino Vassallo, the secretary of the union’s manufacturing and services section.
