An association statement said that when the two wardens went to the site of a traffic accident, a taxi driver who had been involved in the accident attacked them. Both had to be taken to St Luke’s Hospital for treatment.

While expressing its solidarity with the wardens during the course of their duties, it urged them to continue carrying out their duties without fear in the interests of the citizens who, in their majority, had great respect toward the law in a democratic country.

The association expects the Malta Tourism Authority to take all the necessary steps that it deems fit in the circumstances.

It said that it cannot understand how some people think they can do what they like.

It called on the government to consider stiffer penalties for people who attack policemen, Armed Forces of Malta personnel and wardens during the course of their duties.
